I’m excited to be living in the roaring twenties but last year sure was full of blessings! Among those were some awfully good recipes and the fellowship of the Southern Plate family! Today I thought I’d share the top ten recipes of 2019 with you. These are the most visited, clicked, printed, shared, and pinned recipes of 2019 – all picked by you!
1. Cheesy Chicken and Rice
Cheesy Chicken and Rice has been the all time #1 recipe on Southern plate for the past several years and for good reason. Families report back that even their pickiest eaters love this flavorful meal in one. Times are a changing as now you can choose from the original slow cooker recipe or the oven version
2. My Favorite Baked Mac and Cheese
A far cry from that boxed stuff, this is my favorite homemade mac and cheese that manages to be stringy AND gooey at the same time. It’s so filling and delicious, it can easily be a meal in and of itself. If you’ve got a hankering for honest to goodness old fashioned mac and cheese, millions of folks have decided that you can’t go wrong with this recipe!
3. Water Pie
Water Pie is one of those magical recipes that came out of the depression era where cooks with little to nothing figured out how to make delicious dishes for those they love. The internet was intrigued, hundreds of thousands tried it, millions shared it, and the verdict was DELICIOUS! You just can’t imagine how this one tastes until you give it a go!
4. Oven Steak Kabobs
Seven years ago I shared how I make these tender and budget friendly steak kabobs in the oven, and they’ve been near the top ten every year since. A simple side of flavorful rice pilaf is all that is needed and kids love loading up their own kabob sticks with meat and veggies of their choice!
5. 2 Ingredient Fluffy Cloud dough
Not all recipes are meant to be eaten but 2 ingredient fluffy cloud dough is a recipe just the same! This one took Pinterest by storm and hasn’t slowed down one bit in the past three years. Always a hit with the younger crowd, cloud dough is a favorite to make and play with!
6. Homemade Banana Pudding
This recipe will always be near and dear to my heart because it is the first food blog post I ever wrote and from this launched Southern Plate! I’ve kept the original post as is and you can click here to see that. If you’d like to see the updated video, click here.
7. Grandmama’s Fail-proof 7 Minute Frosting
Grandmama’s Fail-proof 7 Minute Frosting is an old school recipe that new generations are falling in love with again! This divinity like frosting has a reputation of being overly difficult but Grandmama’s recipe takes away the intimidation.
8. Snickerdoodle Zucchini Bread
All the flavors of a snickerdoodle stirred with the goodness of zucchini into a delicious quick bread. We sure can’t blame the internet for loving this one!
9. Southern Steak & Milk Gravy
I was proud to see one of my childhood favorites is as loved by y’all as it is me! Southern Steak and Milk Gravy is comfort food at its finest in my mind and this simple recipe is a classic!
10. Elvis Presley Cake
Yellow cake, soaked in pineapple sauce and topped with cream cheese icing – it is no wonder this cake was rumored to be one of Elvis Presley’s favorites! Apparently it’s an internet favorite, too, because this one came in at number ten for 2019.
Did any of your favorite make the list? Are there any you plan on trying soon?

🙂 You have good taste Phyl!
Cheesy Chicken and Rice, Southern Steak & Milk Gravy, and Elvis Presley Cake are just 3 of my favorites of your many recipes. I have to be gluten free for health reasons and love the fact that I can replace GF flour or corn starch in most of the recipes.
I am so glad to hear that you are able to substitute and make them fit your dietary needs!
My favorite Christy Jordan recipe is Chocolate Cobbler from your first cookbook. (I have all three.) It’s so easy to fix and totally delicious! Happy 2020! =^..^=
One of our favorites too Fran!!!
Hi Christy,
I think the Snickerdoodle Bread is the best use of a zucchini I have seen :). But I want to tell you about the Dishpan cookies that have become a “thing” in our family. I also made about 12 dozen (2 batches) in early December for our ladies group where we were making gift bags for the Senior Center. Then made a batch for our family for Christmas–went wild and sprinkled red and green on them to be festive. Now a lady from Senior Center says a bunch of people want the recipe for “those cookies in the gift bags”. I will pass that along with your name and website!!!
Happy New Year!
Oh my goodness, I am so glad they were a hit with the ladies and I appreciate you passing along Southern Plate to them!! I hope you have a blessed New Year!!
I really wanna try the Elvis Presley Cake 🙂

My husband is a pie guy. Can’t wait to see how he likes the water pie!
