Help Support Our Troops!
A while back I heard of several service members who are currently overseas and desperately in need of mail and care packages. You’ve no idea what a boost this is to their morale. I mentioned it on the Southern Plate Family Page on Facebook and received many offers of folks asking for addresses and also more addresses of service members who would love to benefit from your kindness. If you’d like to adopt a service member overseas, please send an email to service@southernplate.com and let me know. After Thanksgiving I’ll email you an address of a service member who is currently serving and would like to receive mail and/or packages. Also, if you have or are a service member who would like to receive cards/packages from a Southern Plate family member, please send your address to service@southernplate.com.
“A Child Who Needs Me”
We had a WONDERFUL experience this past weekend, and it’s all thanks to you. Back in September when I sold the Bountiful Baskets, I wanted to do something special with the proceeds but wasn’t sure what just yet. This past Saturday my family and I went and bought two brand new bicycles. I let Brady and Katy each pick out one so of course we ended up with a boy bike and a girl bike!
We then went and donated them to Toys For Tots at their kickoff event. It meant so very much to me to be able to do that and to see my kids so willing to give. I honestly thought Katy Rose would have a hard time handing over the bike but she was just as willing as Brady, even asking me “Mama, can play with the kids who get this bicycle?”. It was a wonderful experience and I know my kids will always take that with them and remember it. I can’t think of a better way to kick off the holidays!
Thank you so much for giving that to me and my family, I will always be grateful.
This year, as you look over your Christmas list, I encourage you to pencil in, up at the very top, “A Child Who Needs Me”. Then be sure you check them off your list and donate your toy, knowing that some child you will never know is going to get to feel a little more love because of your giving heart. I know times are tight but Mama always said that its times like these that we all need to come up with a way to give just a little bit more to someone else.
It comes back to you, I promise.
There is always something to be grateful for.
Gratefully,
Christy 🙂
Do It Anyway
People are often unreasonable,
illogical, and self-centered;
Forgive them anyway.If you are kind, people may accuse you of
Selfish, ulterior motives;
Be kind anyway.If you are successful, you will win some
False friends and some true enemies;
Succeed anyway.If you are honest and frank,
People may cheat you;
Be honest and frank anyway.What you spend years building,
Someone could destroy overnight;
Build anyway.If you find serenity and happiness,
They may be jealous;
Be happy anyway.The good you do today,
People will often forget tomorrow;
Do good anyway.Give the world the best you have,
And it may never be enough;
Give the world the best you’ve got anyway.You see, in the final analysis,
It is between you and God;
It never was between you and them anyway.~credited to Mother Theresa
Have a happy thanksgiving! Do enjoy your family 🙂 we’ll be here waiting for you! :))
Christy, I am glad to see you involved with the needy. I donate to Packages fron Home, and Toys for Tots. I also bake 30 dozen cookies each year and sponsor an underpriviledged child through the Circle of Love. We are having the Circle of Love on Dec 2nd this year.
happy Thanksgiving to you all. You have a lovely family.
Enjoy the family time! Thanks for all you have done and continue to do- you are amazing. Happy Thanksgiving! 🙂
Thanks for all the yummy recipes Christy, they remind me of my mother’s cooking! Happy Thanksgiving!!
Have a wonderful time with your family. You deserve a break. Love the family pic.
Have fun with your family and have a great Thanksgiving!! 🙂
Oh and one of my many favorite Thanksgiving recipes of Christy’s is the Pumpkin Spice Muffins with Streusal topping! So yummy!!
Hi Courtney! ~waves~ You are right on target with that Streusel Topped Pumpkin Spice muffin recipe. They are gorgeous and deLISH! Happy Thanksgiving to you.
Please make the crockpot dressing with the Dixie cornbread, readers! They are so good! My stepmother said that this recipe is better than my paternal grandmother’s recipe, which says a lot. Also, by using the crockpot, you don’t have to take up room on the stove! Just place the crockpot in another room, if you need more counter space in the kitchen.
Thanks for a great recipe, Christy! Everyone in my family is waiting eagerly for me to make this dressing this Thanksgiving. They still remember it from last year.
Hi Memoria!
Thanks for the wonderful compliment about the Dixie cornbread….I will bet a dollar to a donut that my Mama is smiling from above right now. Have a blessed Thanksgiving.
