Jar of homemade cappuccino mix.

This homemade cappuccino mix is special for two very important reasons:

1. It is a coffee drink!

2. Thanks to sugar-free products, I can actually drink it!

What a perfect gift for that person who is dieting or has to watch their sugar. At last, something for us! This sugar-free cappuccino mix couldn’t be easier to make. All you need to do is combine the ingredients in a bowl. Those ingredients I hear you ask? Instant coffee, Nesquik, powdered coffee creamer, ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg, and Splenda.

The homemade coffee mix has the perfect blend of warm spices, sweetness, coffee, and creaminess. To gift, I pop some of the dry mix in a half-pint jar and add a festive tag with instructions (I’ve included them below too). Then to make a homemade cappuccino, all you or your loved ones need to do is combine a few tablespoons of the mix with hot water and voila, it’s coffee time!

Cappuccino mix ingredients

Recipe Ingredients

  • Instant coffee
  • No sugar added Nesquik (or any brand no sugar added instant chocolate drink mix)
  • Powdered coffee creamer
  • Ground cinnamon
  • Ground nutmeg
  • Splenda

How to Make Homemade Cappuccino Mix

Put all of your ingredients in a mixing bowl.

Put all of your ingredients in a mixing bowl in the quantities listed in the recipe below.

Ingredients mixed together.

Stir that up well and yep, that’s it, you’ve made your cappuccino mix!

Of course, I am doubling this because y’all know how I like to double things!

Jar of cappuccino mix.

I just put mine in a little half-pint jar and cut a circle of Christmas fabric with pinking shears to put under the screw-on ring.

I have tags available below to put on this too.

Now, how do you make a cappuccino from your mix?

All you need to do is add 3 tablespoons of cappuccino mix to 8 ounces of hot water, stir, and you have yourself a homemade cappuccino.

Storage

When stored in an airtight container in a cool dry place (like your pantry) this dry coffee mix will last up to 2 months.

Recipe Notes

  • Now personally, I don’t care for nutmeg and I never have. However, I bought it just to use for this recipe and decided I’d put it in as the original recipe called for. I figured I’d change my mind and perhaps realize that I hadn’t given nutmeg a good chance before. Guess what? I learned that I just really don’t like nutmeg. If you do, that’s great! If you don’t, I would encourage you to leave it out and add more cinnamon in its place.
  • If you don’t mind not being sugar-free, you can use any type of sugar in this recipe: granulated sugar, coconut sugar, brown sugar, you name it!
  • Have fun with the coffee creamer and use any flavor you like, like hazelnut or french vanilla non-dairy creamer.
  • If you want an even creamier cappuccino, substitute the hot water for hot milk instead.

  1. This mix was way too stout for me…it had a much stronger coffee flavor than I like, and I discovered that I don’t like nutmeg either! I added more creamer, sugar, and chocolate in increments until it tasted right to me. I used a 16 oz. mug, and it only took 3 1/2 tbs. of mix to make it taste right to me. This mixture came the closest to tasting like the yummy “Mocha Cappucino” you get in convenience stores.out of the Cappucino machine. It’s sweeter and less bitter tasting (coffee flavor is much milder).

    Here’s the changes I made:

    • 2 Cups powdered coffee creamer
    • 2 Cups no sugar added chocolate drink mix (I used Nesquik)
    • 2/3 C instant coffee granules (I used Decaf Folgers Crystals)
    • 1 1/4 Cups Splenda
    • 1 tsp. cinnamon
To prepare, place 3 ½ Tbs. in a 16 oz. mug and add hot water to about ¾ full.

  2. I’ve been a recent convert to cappuccino…. before it’s been only versions of hot chocolate. I, too, have issues with sugar and am really anxious to try this recipe. I’ll be picking up all the ingredients that I don’t have on hand when I go to the store this afternoon. Thanks much!

  3. WOW, I really like this cappucino recipe, going to try it for sure and also some of the others. And I look forward to the recipes that you are going to add because I have problems with sugar too. I have mine under control right now but if I indulge, it goes back up.

Also, I love all the recipes, for that matter, everything. Thank you very much.

  4. I am so excited. Great Recipes and I look forward to using this one often. My husband does not like coffee but will drink hot chocolate. So, I plan to use the decaf coffee in your recipe and mix the first batch just for him.

  5. I am so thrilled that you are going to be sending us some low sugar/sugar free recipes. I am type 2 diabetic and it is so hard to find special treats that are actually edible. Can’t wait. Right now I am like a kid waiting on Santa. I will anxiously be waiting!
By the way, if you would like for your kids to receive a letter from Santa and don’t mind sharing your address with me with their names, I will see to it that a letter is sent to them.
