Looking for an appetizer to make for the next game night that’s quick, easy, and delicious? Well, let me introduce you to my Southern-style BBQ air fryer chicken wings. These crowd-pleasing wings are coated in a delicious and flavorful seasoning, which includes hot sauce, garlic powder, seasoning salt, and creole seasoning. Cooked in the air fryer until crispy on the outside and juicy and tender on the inside, you then toss the wings in a BBQ sauce before serving.

I highly recommend serving your wings with carrot, celery, and a side of ranch for dipping for the ultimate game-winning snack. Now, this recipe makes a scrumptious chicken wing batch that is more flavorful than spicy, with a lovely medium heat. But if you’d prefer less heat, you can totally reduce the amount of hot sauce.

Recipe FAQs

How long do you cook wings in an air fryer?

The above instructions are the optimal times to cook a crispy chicken wing batch in the air fryer – 12 minutes each side, turning in between.

Do you have to flip wings in an air fryer?

Yes, for the best and crispiest results, you should definitely turn your wings in the air fryer, halfway through the cooking time.

Can I stack wings in an air fryer?

For best results, I strongly discourage doing more than one layer of wings in an air fryer at a time. Not stacking your wings ensure they are evenly cooked and perfectly crispy.

Can I cook my air fryer chicken wings from frozen?

If you choose to cook with frozen chicken wings, I recommend cooking them in the air fryer for six minutes to thaw, before tossing the frozen wings in the wing sauce and continuing to follow the recipe instructions.

What do you serve with BBQ air fryer chicken wings?

As an appetizer, I recommend serving your cooked wings with carrot and celery sticks and ranch dipping sauce. But if you’d like to make them into a meal, serve them with rice, baked vegetables of your choice, and a side of cornbread.

  1. Those wings look delicious! I recently joined the Air Fryer family, so this recipe will be pinned. I’m not a fan of creole seasoning….do you have any suggestions for a replacement? I do use poultry seasoning when making my flour mixture for chicken.

  2. I am looking for air fryer recipes! My air fryer is new so I am learning. This will be great for our New Year party! Thank you!

  3. Oh my!! These look delicious! I love Frank’s Red Sauce and put it on a lot (including my toe when a big bottle fell on my foot!). I recently had Alabama White Sauce which is incredible! I don’t have an air fryer -yet. I am trying to get rid of things I seldom use but from what I read and hear I would definitely use an air fryer. Any tips on how to cook in a regular oven or would frying be better? Any suggestions greatly appreciated! May your New Year be a good one!!

  4. I know i could reduce the hot sauce, but if I chose to leave it out totally what could I use to replace the liquid component it lends? Water? I would also have to reduce the Creole seasoning. I make gumbo and other dishes with this seasoning and have learned that the heat can grow with the next day of heating and eating. LOL So I guess wondering how to reduce the heat factor for myself and my littles.
