Happy Birthday to the Southern Plate Cookbook!

Today marks the one year anniversary of the official release of my book, and what a wonderful year it has been! I really put my heart into this book and I am so very grateful to everyone who has taken it into their homes and made a place for it in their hearts as well. I cannot thank you enough for your kind words and support. I am so very blessed to have you as part of the Southern Plate Family!

In honor of today, I thought I’d share a couple of videos. The first is me talking a little bit about the book, with some cute appearances by my kids (not that I’m biased ~wink~), and the second is the video of me seeing my book for the first time and sharing that experience with you!

I’ve gotten to travel around the country, do lots of fun local and national tv appearances, and even film with Paula Deen (whose quote appears on the cover of my book). It’s been a fun ride but I can’t imagine having taken it without you!

Here are some fun posts from last year around the time my book debuted:

So I think I need to celebrate today.

I feel like I should make a cake but more importantly I’d love to celebrate with you.

If you have the book, please leave a comment below

(If you don’t have the book, I’d still love to hear from ya!)

Tell me your favorite recipe or story from the book or if there was something in particular that struck a chord with you.

I’d love for you to share your heart with us in the comments!

 Maybe we should sing…

**Important Note: Please note that all dates at the bottom of these posts are from last year. I’m not doing a tour this year but I’d love for you to come to my Holiday Cooking show in Muscle Shoals, Alabama on November 10! We’re so excited about this year’s Holiday Cooking Show. It will feature a marketplace you can walk through ahead of time to browse, shop, and try all sorts of wonderful samples. After that, everyone will come into the auditorium for my cooking show and DOOR PRIZES GALORE! The great thing about this show is that after I finish preparing each item on stage, the UNA Culinary students will be coming out in the audience to give everyone a sample of what I just made! So we’ll visit, laugh, eat, laugh some more, and just have a wonderful evening together. This year also adds a child’s ticket price as well so bring the kiddies because I’ve got some special surprises in store for them! This is the only cooking show I’ll be doing so make plans to come on out and be sure and purchase your tickets today by clicking here. This is entirely a volunteer effort. All proceeds benefit the University of North Alabama HES Department.

  1. Christy I love my book. Took me here in Michigan until just before Christmas last year to find it and I swallowed hard at the price. Never before have I spent so much on any book I have ever bought but it was well worth every peeny I spent on it.

And I have to admit I can not choose a favorite recipe from it. They are all great.

Congrats on your one year anniversary of the book.

  2. Happy Birthday! Your video is so wonderful – it made me cry to see you send your new baby out in the world. Thank you for sharing your baby with all of us. I love mine!

  3. Happy Anniversary.

I just recently got my copy of Southern Plate. I can’t say I have a favorite recipe. Between the stories and recipes, I travel back in time and back home to my grandmother’s kitchen. My family is from Southern Alabama and I know what it is like to have more then the normal set of grandparents. I was raised Southern and anyone from the South knows what that means. Whenever I need comfort food, I reach for things like Okra & Tomatoes, boiled peanuts, southern succatash (aka texas caviar), chicken n dumplings and anything covered in milk gravy (including fried shrimp).

A big THANK YOU to you Christie, for all the hard work you do. I swear you must be my missing cousin. Got any Cherry’s in your family tree?

  4. Love you and your book!!!!!!!!! Happy birthday. In having fried peach pies in honor of this momentous occasion 🙂

  5. Dear Christie, I DO have your cookbook and use it almost every day! So far, the recipe I love, love, love is the sweet and sour green beans. The other night I made the mac n cheese for about the tenth time and my husband (after taking the first bite ) said….”This is the best mac n cheese on the planet!!” Just wanted you to know…I read a little bit on your site every day and when I check my email and don’t see something from you I have to admit I am a little disappointed. I know you’re a very busy lady though so I just go to an archive or two and get “my fix”. Thank you for reminding all of us who read your blog that it’s the simple things that matter most! You’re a real friend to all of us who “sit on your front porch and chat for a while”!

  6. I don’t have a lot of cookbooks (yet), but the Southern Plate cookbook is one I keep going back to. I even gave it to my mom for Christmas – wish I’d decided to do that early enough to get her signed like mine is. I’m sure it was a trip down memory lane for her, since her mom grew up on a farm in east Texas.

Happy 1st birthday, Southern Plate cookbook!
