Happy Birthday to the Southern Plate Cookbook!

Today marks the one year anniversary of the official release of my book, and what a wonderful year it has been! I really put my heart into this book and I am so very grateful to everyone who has taken it into their homes and made a place for it in their hearts as well. I cannot thank you enough for your kind words and support. I am so very blessed to have you as part of the Southern Plate Family!

In honor of today, I thought I’d share a couple of videos. The first is me talking a little bit about the book, with some cute appearances by my kids (not that I’m biased ~wink~), and the second is the video of me seeing my book for the first time and sharing that experience with you!

I’ve gotten to travel around the country, do lots of fun local and national tv appearances, and even film with Paula Deen (whose quote appears on the cover of my book). It’s been a fun ride but I can’t imagine having taken it without you!

Here are some fun posts from last year around the time my book debuted:

So I think I need to celebrate today.

I feel like I should make a cake but more importantly I’d love to celebrate with you.

If you have the book, please leave a comment below

(If you don’t have the book, I’d still love to hear from ya!)

Tell me your favorite recipe or story from the book or if there was something in particular that struck a chord with you.

I’d love for you to share your heart with us in the comments!

 Maybe we should sing…

**Important Note: Please note that all dates at the bottom of these posts are from last year. I’m not doing a tour this year but I’d love for you to come to my Holiday Cooking show in Muscle Shoals, Alabama on November 10! We’re so excited about this year’s Holiday Cooking Show. It will feature a marketplace you can walk through ahead of time to browse, shop, and try all sorts of wonderful samples. After that, everyone will come into the auditorium for my cooking show and DOOR PRIZES GALORE! The great thing about this show is that after I finish preparing each item on stage, the UNA Culinary students will be coming out in the audience to give everyone a sample of what I just made! So we’ll visit, laugh, eat, laugh some more, and just have a wonderful evening together. This year also adds a child’s ticket price as well so bring the kiddies because I’ve got some special surprises in store for them! This is the only cooking show I’ll be doing so make plans to come on out and be sure and purchase your tickets today by clicking here. This is entirely a volunteer effort. All proceeds benefit the University of North Alabama HES Department.

  1. This book is wonderful!! The recipes are delicious and easy without calling for a lot of “special” ingredients that I don’t normally have on hand. It is so obvious that you put your heart into this book and probably had to make sacrifices in putting it all together and all of us who have this book are reaping the benefits.
Thank you so much for this book and your website.

  2. Congratulations on your 1 yr anniversary! I ordered your book last Friday, so I will have it soon. I was almost crying with you when watching the video of you seeing your book for the first time. Thanks for sharing that with us all. I enjoy your site immensely. Check it everyday to see if you’ve posted something new, and am going back over all the old ones. I love the home-made quality you show in all the recipes you give us. You are a joy to see, read and listen to everyday. You have been blessed with a God given talent of sharing your love with all of us. And we are TRULY blessed to be able to have you into our homes everyday. Thank you so much. Again, congratulations on your 1 yr anniversary!

  3. Christy, words cannot express how much finding your blog and receiving your book as a gift has meant to me and my family. I’ve always enjoyed cooking, but working and raising a family it was more a chore than enjoyment! I have retired now and trying to learn to cook again was not that easy, then along came your blog and cookbook!! My family loves you!!!! Thank you for all that you do for all of us, giving your time and your great recipes!!! Give our thanks to your family for sharing you with all of us and give them huge hugs (such a beautiful family) from all of us here in NE GA!!!

  5. I remember watching these videos when they first came out and watching you unwrap the book last year. I giggled along with you, and have enjoyed your receipes all year long. Thank you Christy for such a wonderful cookbook. Happy birthday!

  6. Dear Christy, I bought your book for my daughter’s birthday on Sept. 11. For the first few days, she carried it with her everywhere. She has cooked many recipes from it and I was privileged to sample some of them. We enjoy the stories and pictures, as much as the recipes themselves. thank you for a beautiful keepsake.
