Give A Penny, Get A Penny

Most gas stations in the South have little change dishes by the register. If you’re paying for a transaction and need an extra penny or two, you simply take one from the dish. People then reciprocate this good turn by dropping a few coins in the dish from time to time, thereby creating a community bank of sorts, based on goodwill.

So in that spirit, this is Southern Plate’s “Give A Penny, Get A Penny” page.” I dearly love positive quotes and am always scouring the web for more so I thought this would be a great place to compile all of those. I’ll post mine, you post yours, and we can all “Give A Penny” when we have one and come back to “Get A Penny” when we need one.

I’ll also draw from these quotes to include at the bottom of my posts and emails that I send out to Southern Plate readers and be sure to credit the person who provided it, so include a link to your blog if you have one.

I would consider it a personal favor if you’d take the time to share a quote of motivation or positivity in the comments section below. Quote yourself, your Mama, someone famous, or our best friend “Anonymous”, it doesn’t matter, long as you drop your penny and then come back on one of those days when you feel like you might need one yourself.

Gratefully,
Christy

  1. When I was a little girl, my grandmother told me to always mind my character. “What
is that Grandma”? I asked. Character is CARE how you ACT.
This is a statement, that has been long forgotten in our society of civilized people. If our grandparents could see, the behavior of their grandchildren they would be so ashamed. I know they would cry out to God. Why can’t we look at ourselves? We’ve come a long way, but our character is shameful. It is my prayer, that we as a people cry out for God’s help and be sincere. He is the only one that can catch us, and remove us from this slippery slope. Cry out right where you are, he’ll HEAR you. Remember JESUS said, he came to save the sick and the sinners. He is truly A SAVIOR.

  2. “This is not the end. It is not even the beginning of the end. But it is, perhaps, the end of the beginning.” – Sir Winston Churchill

“He is richest who is content with the least, for content is the wealth of nature.” – Socrates

“If the highest aim of a captain were to preserve his ship, he would leave it in port forever.” Thomas Aquinas

“Why do you plot against the LORD? He will make a complete end; trouble will not rise up a second time.” – Nahum 1:9

  3. From my Mama: “Can’t never could”
    From me: “Almost doesn’t Count”
From a plaque on my wall: “To the world, you may be one person, but to one person, you may be the world” (author unknown)
And my favorite: “Live Well, Laugh Often, Love Much”

  4. ”I am too BLESSED to be STRESSED and too ANOITED to be DISAPPOINTED”

Daddy has told me this several times: When he was in Korea, he sent his Mom a
postcard that said “Worry is like a rocking chair, keeps you busy & gets you nowhere.”
