How To Make Peach Cobbler

This is one of my mother’s recipes and she took all of these photographs. I wasn’t even there for a bite of it! Mama has always had a way with peaches. In the future, I hope to show you her peach freezer jam and the historical peach crisp we make. She used to make this homemade sour dough bread and we’d eat it hot out of the oven with slices completely smothered in fresh peach freezer jam. Oh my lord, I miss living at home.
In the meantime, while I’m preparing my tutorial on peanut butter balls and finishing up my writing on my grandmother’s sweet potato pie, lets give you another of my mother’s summer classics : Fresh Peach Cobbler.
(notice Mama uses the real stuff, unlike me!), and fresh peeled peaches.
There is a note on how to substitute canned at the bottom.
This helps the sugar to dissolve faster.

Bake at 350 for 55 minutes, or until golden on the top.
If I didn’t have a food blog, that alone would be grounds for some sort of criminal charges.

Ingredients
- 4 cups peeled and sliced peaches
- 2 T. lemon juice
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/2 t. cinnamon
- 1 cup milk
- 1 cup self rising flour
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 stick butter or margarine
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Melt stick of butter in oven proo
- f casserole dish in oven while making pie ingredients.
- Pour the two T. lemon juice over the peaches. Stir to coat. Pour 1/2 cup sugar over peaches. Stir. Heat in microwave for 1 minute so that sugar begins to melt.
- Mix together 1 cup flour, 1 cup sugar, and cinnamon until blended. Pour in 1 cup milk and mix until blended.
- After butter is melted, take casserole out of oven and pour batter on top of melted butter. Pour peaches on top of batter. DO NOT STIR! Sprinkle a tablespoon of sugar over pie. Place in 350 oven and cook for 55 minutes or until golden.

My best friend is here for the weekend from Rochester NY. We hit the Madison AL Farmers Market this morning and bought some peaches to make this cobbler and to can some fresh peach jam. Oh my goodness- it looks so beautiful! Can’t wait to dig into it tonight w/ some vanilla bean ice cream.

I just made this today but with the canned peaches and it was delicious better than any peach cobbler I have ever had! Thank you so much for the recipe! It was so easy to make too. I will be making it again and maybe I will try it with fresh peaches lol!
I made this tonight and it came out aweful! :'( Was I suppose to drain my peaches, because I did not. The recipe didn’t say one way or the other so I didn’t! I’m gonna try and make it again and drain them. ~sigh~ I was so looking forward to it too. I’ve made the strawberry cobbler and it came out awesome! So I was really ready for the peach one. I may just go ahead and try fresh as well since they are in season here in Louisiana!
Well Christy! I have discovered that it’s probably my oven. I made a Dewberry Cobbler last night and it came out just about the same way. Your cobbler and the Dewberry all taste good, there is just no crust!….lol…. :'( Looks like we will have to get our stove fixed! Luckily my Dad is a repair man so hopefully he can figure out the problem! I’m NOT giving up on this cobbler!Your Mama’s Strawberry Cobbler is awesome so I just know her peach cobbler is too!
Hey! Here is a trick that can help you make up for the difference (if you can’t get it fixed or if it is too expensive)
Just put an oven thermometer in there, preheat your oven to 300 and see what temp the thermometer says. Then offset the difference. For example, if your oven says 350 but your thermometer says 325, just add 25 degrees everytime you cook. Instead of 350, heat it to 375..

lol…yes, and we did buy a theometer, and it came out right! I figured out my problem though this morning when I was making a cobbler in my crock pot. This recipe called for just regular flour, weeeelll…ALL this time I had been using my regular flour instead of my self-rising!!! UGH!!! I’m such a idiot!…LOL…And I have it written on my ziplock bag that the flour is in! ~shakes head~ We just bought a big ‘ole box of peaches from a farmers market, so this recipe will be getting used again! I’m sorry I’ve been bugging you! It was just driving me crazy, that I couldn’t figure out why 2 cobblers never came out right! And I made your Mama’s strawberry cobbler several times and every time I had prefect results! Thanks for your time tho! I just love you and your easy recipes!
Christy THANK YOU! Again, your site has made my meal! I have been looking for this recipe for some time, but none have ever come out just right, but this was the ONE. My grandmother also made awesome cobblers that were never written down, but this one was about as close as you can get!! My husband closed his eyes the whole time he was eating it! LOL and then went to bed early. Love it!!!

My grandma made awesome peach cobbler, but she never wrote it down and died quite suddenly. I had given up hope of figuring it all out, but you came so close it was awesome! Thank you for sharing!
