  1. For as long as I can remember my mom has made “Christmas” Toffee. When I was in my 20’s Mom had a frozen shoulder for several years and needed backup stirrers for the toffee. My sisters, my dad and I would be called in to help out. Since nobody ever bothered to buy a candy thermometer to know when to stop stirring and start pouring into the pans, we all had to learn when to recognize the perfect time to take the toffee off the stove. “Wait for the dark red streaks and “puffs” of smoke” is what my mom taught us all. My best friend begs me to make her some toffee every year. Mom usually just waits for one of us to make the toffe now instead of making it herself. It’s pure heaven and just four ingredients, Land O Lakes butter, sugar, a large Hershey bar to melt over the top and chopped pecans sprinkled over the chocolate make it perfection on a plate! My mouth is watering at the thought and now I will have to race to the store to buy the ingredients….

  2. Sweet Potato Soufle with pecan topping. If I don’t make it for holiday dinner, I had better not show up.. Tonight my daughter (who isn’t known for her cooking skills) asked for the recipe. She said she wasn’t going to go through another holiday without it! ( I was out of town on vaction for Thanksgiving so they were on their own). My son, who is living in China, (who loves to cook – go figure) asked for it as well so he could prepare it for their dinner.

  3. When my hubby was alive he used to make us chicken paprika he was such a good cook. I don’t cook a whole lot anymore since I’m alone but do enjoy having the family over for special occasions. Love to do buffet items. My son in law and Grandson always love the deviled eggs.

  4. I try to replicate my mother’s cornbread dressing for the holidays. Mine is close but not exact. She never had a written recipe.

  5. we love to make (and eat!) a traditional Irish/English Porter fruitcake (which is NOTHING like the Amercan version!) which starts with Guinness as a base ingredient…..delish, and slices are best served with a layer of real butter……mmmmm

  6. My favorite is what we call “The Green Stuff”. Really think it is a lime gelatin salad (recipe originally from a Tupperware rep).

It has ice cream in it. Scrumptious
