This holiday season, Kraft Foods teamed up with celeb Chef Marcus Samuelsson to bring in an exclusive recipe collection new content pack for on their iPad app Big Fork Little Fork. In celebration of this new addition, Kraft Foods is giving away a 16GB Wi-Fi iPad to one lucky Southern Plate Family member along with the downloadable app to spice things up for moms and their kids during this holiday season.
But first, a little bit more on how the app can help you -and your the kids- out in the kitchen. The new content pack contains globally-inspired recipes, how-to videos, and a ton of tips and tricks from Marcus himself to show just how easy it is to get everyone involved in creating meals together. The new content is really Marcus designed the content pack to bring both parents and children into the kitchen to make cooking a family affair (and a fun one at that!)
And now for the fun part: bringing this virtual cookbook into the kitchens of your readers! Below are some screenshots of the app and a recipe from the new content pack.
The interface is colorful, interactive, informative, and FUN!

Although I am showing a photo of shrimp and grits up there, I don’t personally eat seafood and I prefer my grits with sugar and butter. I love to make chocolate chess pie every Christmas for my family. It is an old family recipe and I always get rave reviews. Everyone wants to make sure I will bring to Chistmas festivities every year!
My children and grandchildren always loved to make “Egg-N-Hat”. Take you fry pan (mine is an iron one from my mother), melt butter in it, cut the center from a piece of white bread with a cookie cutter or glass, keep the center part, now put both in the melted butter and brown this side, turn them over and break an egg in the center cut out area, cook until you have your egg done as you like it. Of course you salt and pepper it the way you like also.
Your Southern Plate has helped to re-establish some of the joy of long ago days living in Virginia and visiting relatives in North Carolina. It would be a real thrill to win in the current contest; however since the chances are slim to none I still wish to thank you for the ‘pleasures’ reading your Southern Plate gives me and brings back so many fond memories. When I went back for visits mom would ask “What would you like to eat?” The answer remained the same. Green beans with shellies, fresh garden tomatoes, onions and either biscuits or corn bread and always fresh watermelon. Yummy, yummie! Thank you for the joy your site brings to this Great-grandmother.
My kids & I have recently started making cheesecakes from scratch & they really enjoy it especially the outcome. Thanks & Happy Holidays
There are a couple this time of year. Of course the Thanksgiving turkey. I make a basting out of margarine/butter, self-rising flour, sage and a few other spices. I baste the turkey with this and the turkey comes out so juicy and tasty. The grown kids and the grandkids are now saying I need to make it for Thanksgiving and Christmas. The other is a dessert full of wonderful calories. I warm up Coconut Pecan Frosting just to get it where I can spoon it easy. I break up Graham Crackers or Cinnamon Graham Grackers in half and place a spoon full of the frosting and put the other half on top. When I get them all made I place them in the fridge to set. If you wanted to stop there you could but I don’t. I take them out of the fridge and get a can of Cream Cheese Frosting and put a dolup of frosting on top and put a Pecan half on top of the frosting. Everyone goes crazy over these. They are called Gerome Bars. and they are simply sinfully wonderful.
Undoubtedly one of the favorites is tacos. Been having ’em since I was about 15 or 16 and I’m near 59 now. Nobody ever seems to grow tired of ’em.
Oh, there are many! To pick only one, I would choose Molasses Sugar Cookies. They are a multi-generational favorite! Thanks for the chance to enter your giveaway. Merry Christmas and a healthy, happy New Year to you and your’s!
