Today I’d like to introduce you to a piece of my heart, my latest book, Sweetness.

Sweetness is a cookbook with over 190 Recipes, which I dedicated to and wrote in honor of my grandparents.

The dedication:

The 192 Recipes in this one are extra special.

Several were found from digging deep into heritage recipe files and bringing back lost and nearly lost favorites from generations ago. When my Grandmama passed away I inherited her cookbook and found so many treasures to share with you from that! Some members of the Southern Plate family also shared cherished and nearly lost recipes from their grandparents as well.

And the stories, always the stories….They are the stories of who made these beloved dishes. You’ll find stories from my grandparent’s childhoods along with photos of them back in the day. Stories Grandmama made me promise I would tell after she is gone.

I can’t believe she is gone. I can’t believe they are gone. But I am so very blessed to have had them in my life and I’m grateful to you for letting me tell you about them in this book.

There are lots of photos (but never as many as we would all like!) and they all have a vintage feel. Plenty of Pyrex was used and lots of fun vintage Pyrex clip art can be found throughout the book as well.

  1. Congratulations, Christy! I love your other two cookbooks and refer to them regularly. I can’t wait to add this one to my collection. Blessings!

  2. Oh my goodness, Christy, reading your book dedication brought tears to my eyes. My grandmother Blakely’s butter rolls and fried pies were famous all over Limestone County. I can see those strong loving arms rolling that dough on the counter. At any church, political, family or social function, folks would elbow each other aside to get to them. If not left hidden in her trunk, they were usually gone before the blessing had been asked. I’d give anything for one more meal at her table. I’m gonna need this book just for the memories it brings back.

  3. Oh Christy how real you make memories. In my heart and mind, I could see my mother mixing her biscuits in her blue pan with her hand everyday. In the South having biscuits and syrup was as common as daddy eating his cornbread and milk every night. I thought everybody was blessed with these memories but now I realize you have to be from the Deep South to have enjoyed those sitting around the kitchen table stories. Thank you for the book but most importantly the stories. Jan from Mississippi.

  4. Oh swee Christy~

  5. Oh dear…I got all choked up just reading this little bit from your blog page. Funny how food ties us all together whether it be with family or a meal shared with a sick friend, or a meal brought to us when we are sick. Food is the glue that holds together good times.

Question: where have the Instagram pics gone from the blog? I loved seeing pics of your growing and going family.

Thanks for all you do on the Information Super Highway.

  6. This book looks great, who can resist sweets combined with your great stories?!
I have enjoyed your other books and blog posts and really like the straightforward way in which you lay out the books and recipes.
Thanks for doing this to remind us about the importance of food and family!

    John
