Holly Jolly Christmas Jars!

Howdy! Ruthie here, from Sugar Pie Farmhouse! I’m excited to share with you a fun and easy decorating idea that will brighten the nooks and crannies of your home for the Christmas season! This is a down-home version of a snow globe. Within minutes you can create a darling little snow scene with just a few items…some of which you probably already have around the house.

I’m going to show you how to put two snow scenes together. I already had one of those glass cookie jars with the glass lid in my pantry and of course a wide mouth mason jar. I filled the bottom of both jars with sugar, because I had plenty on hand, but you could also use table salt or Epsom salts. Then just gather the following items to doll up your jar with some Holly Jolly Christmas goodness:

  • An ornament; a house, a barn (mine came from Target!), a snowman, or anything that you think would look beautiful in a snow scene!
  • Snow village people: You can find charming little figurine scenes wherever those lighted snow village houses are sold. Walmart, Michaels, Hobby Lobby or Kohl’s has them. I already had the cute couple roasting marshmallows by the fire. If you go to Michaels be sure to use their 40% coupon that you can find online! (Did you know that you can use a Hobby Lobby Coupon at Michaels? Yes! They honor them!)
  • Miniature trees; tiny bottle brush trees or the frosted trees they sell as accessories with those Christmas snow villages, found at the same stores mentioned above.

Just fill your glass jar with the sugar or salt, set your ornament and trees into the “snow” and Tah-Dah! You’re done! You have yourself a Holly Jolly Christmas Jar!

Tie the festive red and white baker’s twine (or any holiday ribbon) around the top for the finishing touch! How easy is that? For even more charm place your Holly Jolly Christmas Jar on top of a white cake stand!

Simple and sweet is the best kind of decorating! This would also make a delightful gift for someone too!

You know dear friend, creating things of beauty to grace your home is not a trivial thing. Beauty brings delight, joy and comfort into our everyday life, they are gifts from the Lord to bless our soul.

“One of the marks of a godly woman is that she takes responsibility for her soul’s need for joy and delight. A woman is a conductor, who leads the orchestra of her surroundings in the songs and music of her life. God is a God of creativity and dimension, and so He is pleased when we co-create beauty in our own realm, through the power of His Spirit.” ― Sally Clarkson, Desperate: Hope for the Mom Who Needs to Breathe

Have fun bringing a whole lot of

Holly Jolly into your home!

Have a holly jolly Christmas
It’s the best time of the year
Well I don’t know if there’ll be snow
But have a cup of cheer

Have a holly jolly Christmas
And when you walk down the street
Say hello to friends you know
And everyone you meet

Have a holly jolly Christmas
And in case you didn’t hear
Oh by golly have a holly jolly Christmas
This year

~ Sung by Burl Ives

  1. Can the barn, tree, house, etc. be glued down before adding the snow? Would make it easier to store away or give as a gift to keep things all in place.
