Dirty Dr Pepper

Public declaration time: I’ve become an addict. I know I can live without this Dirty Dr Pepper recipe, but I don’t want to!

It all started when I made friends with these two sweet ladies who share my love of fun non-alcoholic drinks. I was talking about my favorite concoction (lemonade and cherry juice) when they mentioned Dirty Diet Coke. My interest was immediately piqued. Dirty soda? I knew they didn’t drink either so it had to be something good. As soon as I got home I found their Dirty Diet Coke recipe and set out to make my own version.

If you know me, you know that I’m team Diet Dr Pepper. It takes less than five minutes to make this dirty soda recipe with just three ingredients: soda of your choice, coconut syrup, and half and half. I know, I know. I was skeptical about combining half and half and soda too. But this is what gives the drink its “dirty” look. And trust me. Once you have that first sip, you’ll be a changed person. It’s like an ice cream float or an old-fashioned egg cream. Rich, creamy, fizzy, sweet, and refreshing goodness!

This is the next best thing to having fairies clean your house while you sleep! It’s like a trip to the beach for under a dollar! It’s like a personal, warm hug directly from Heaven to Diet Dr Pepper lovers everywhere! Let’s make ourselves one.

Recipe Variations

  • Now, I know I’m using Diet Dr Pepper. But you can seriously make this dirty soda recipe with any carbonated drink. That might be Pepsi, regular Dr Pepper, flavored Dr Pepper, Mountain Dew, or good old Coca-Cola.
  • For extra tropical flavor, add a lime wedge as a garnish, and then add as much freshly squeezed lime juice as you like.
  • The traditional option is coconut syrup. But other syrups like vanilla syrup, English toffee syrup, and butterscotch syrup also complement the soda.
  • Besides half and half, you can use milk for a lighter option or go creamier with heavy cream.
  • Another option is using coconut creamer or coconut milk to boost the coconut flavor.

  1. When I saw the coconut syrup included I began to worry. But really, after trying so many of your recipes (I’m here regularly and have both your cookbook and magazine) and loving everything. Too many to rave about each one but made the double Dr. Pepper cupcakes over the weekend, they are to die for! I gotta trust your judgement when it comes to foods and flavors.

    off to find coconut syrup…

  2. walmart sells the coconut syrup. and coconut rum would really be the bomb!!! you could cut the calories even more with just whole milk.

  3. Nothing healthy about this concoction. All artificial sweeteners have been scientifically proven to be unhealthy & to actually promote weight GAIN. Half-&-Half has more carbs (translate: sugar) than heavy cream. Much better would be using canned coconut milk, a few drops of liquid stevia for sweetener & a splash of regular (not diet) soda.

  4. Mmmmm….yes, I can believe this will be luscious! Back in the “olden days” when I was a teenager, my first job was at the Dairy Queen. We had a drink called a Pink Lady which was a combination of 7-Up, vanilla syrup and whole milk. Even with just milk, it was wonderful! I’m going to try this, only with Diet-Rite because I’ve cut aspartame totally out of my diet. Too many health negatives, plus when I found out how it was discovered — well, let’s just say, I don’t want it. Anyway, being a long time Coke drinker (real Coke), I set about to look for a substitute w/o aspartame and found Diet-Rite! No caffeine, no aspartame, sugarless! Will most definitely try this. Thanks, Christy!!

  5. Whooee, this sounds so good. I think this would be good with pineapple soda (you can find it sugar free at Publix) the coconut Torani syrup & the half n half. Yummo!!!! Gonna have to try this!!!!

  6. Here in Texas we have a whole AISLE of Torani syrups at our Drug Emporium. Not sure if you have those in AL, but that’s where I get mine for super cheap! 🙂

  7. Oh, Christy, you make me laugh! I nearly choked on my Special K when I read about the rotted grape juice! My husband and I don’t drink either and we toasted each other with 7-up at our wedding. We’ve been married 40 years so it didn’t jinx us like our friends told us it would. We’re still married and NONE of them are.

I buy Torani at World Market. I don’t usually like sugar-free stuff but I can’t tell the difference with these. They were on sale last week for 2/$10.00. I love coconut so I’ll have to go back for some and try this! I wonder if the bacon flavor would work in pancakes and waffles………?
