In this video I’ll show you how to use a dehydrator to preserve frozen mixed vegetables for long period of time without taking up precious freezer space! At the end of the video, I also show you what the dehydrated vegetables look like once you reconstitute them and how easy that is to do!

Sorry, but another question!! I lose lots of onions because I don’t use them fast enough. I’m wondering if I could dehydrate them for later use. It seems like another way to avoid waste and they would be good in casseroles or stew, I think!!
They dehydrate wonderfully!! But I always put my dehydrator out on the porch when I do them so I don’t have an onion scented house 🙂

Christy, we’ve enjoyed the videos about dehydrating food items enough that we are looking to purchase one soon. One question: Do we need to a mandolin slicer for the fresh fruits? While we are ordering, we may as well get what we need for we visualize lots of apples being used!! Thanks!!
I do a LOT of fruit and don’t even own a mandolin. I just use a paring knife and slice it any way I want. Experiment and see if you prefer thicker or thinner slices, they both dehydrate equally well 😉
I love these ideas! I have the same model of Excalibur and love using it to make beef jerky, which is ridiculously priced in the store! I have a question about other frozen vegetables: what about broccoli, potatoes, Lima beans, things like that? Do they work the same way for dehydrating? Also, you aren’t then sealing things in a can, just using mason jars for storage or maybe sealing with your food sealer, right?

I have a dehydrator like yours, but haven’t used it in a long time. But your great idea. I like the idea of ziplock bags as they can be stored flat. Taking even less space. But I have a question, What about bugs and mice with them.
I prefer mason jars for that reason among others, but if you’d rather use zipper bags I would go with freezer grade for more protection. 🙂
Can you put green beans in ? I have some fresh ones ?
Thank you for sharing with us all. I look forward to plenty of fresh tomatoes this summer. Can you do the same with tomatoes? Sometimes, we can eat ours fast enough and our friends and family like to grow their own too. I’d love to have some on hand for the winter to add to soup.

WELL, IT TOOK ME 4 DAYS TO GET STARTED, BUT MY FREEZER IS ROOMIER AND MY EXCALIBUR IS STUFFED!
