  1. I have the ingredients needed on my grocery list and will be making these for the 4th and will probably use the little Hillshire smokie links or cut up Hillshire Sausage in place of the wieners being we will be having hot dogs and hamburgers. Might even add some cut up maple flavored bacon besides.
Nice big hunk of corn bread smeared with honey would go good with these beans and would be a meal in itself.
Enjoyed reading your funny, not so funny story.
Wishing you a wonderful day as well as a fun and safe 4th of July holiday.

  2. Well, I need to make the beans. The story was so funny that I just about “busted a gusset” laughing over it. And, you are right about North Alabama –good food seems to be the panacea for just about every death. My sisters and I got three recipes from the good folks who brought outstanding food when our mama died. Southerners love good food, and most of them love sharing recipes for their delicious food. One doesn’t appreciate this attribute of southerners until one moves to another area of the country where this doesn’t happen. Thanks for the laugh today!!

  3. I think I’ll make them for the fourth too, except I’m going to use a package of lil’ smokies ‘stead of weenies.

  4. Will have to give it a try, son in law doesn’t like baked beans at all, finally found one brand he will eat, so will give the whole thing a try, the butter beans will be the hard part, may wind up cooking my own as all I’ve been able to find are baby limas and those just don’t cut it for flavour.

      1. That is exactly where these came from!:D I love Aldi’s canned veggies, the prices are amazing. Whenever I need one can of something, I just buy a whole flat and usually end up paying around $10 for a dozen cans so I have extra the next time I need it.

  5. It is funny we all have one of these bean recipes. In our family it is called “Yum Yum Beans”. One of the sons had to plan a menu for a week-end campout for the Boy Scouts. He talked about including Yum Yum Beans. His friends thought he was crazy but he persisted. I mixed up the base mixture and seasoning and he added the beans and cooked them at camp. The Yum Yum Beans went like wild fire. They couldnt find the pot afterwards to clean it because the biggest Scout heckler had taken the pot behind a big tree and was licking out the end of the beans and juice using his fingers. We laugh about this story. But Yum Yum Beans were included in may more campouts.
