How to Make Cherry Cream Cheese Pie
Place your softened cream cheese in a large mixing bowl and add your sweetened condensed milk.
Add in your lemon juice and vanilla.
with a hand mixer until smooth.
Spread that cheesecake filling into the pie crust.
Like so.
Cover with and put it in the refrigerator for several hours.
I also refrigerate my canned cherry pie filling at this time as well. I just stick the whole unopened can in there.
After several hours, top the with your favorite pie filling.
Oh my. Look how pretty that pie is!
Return this to the refrigerator to firm up some more until ready to serve. I love using this pie server! The edging makes it so much easier to serve up!

Isn’t it time you made this pie for someone you love?
Storage
Store leftover pie in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. But please note that the pie filling will eventually bleed into the cheesecake layer the longer it sits in the fridge. It’ll still taste good, it just won’t look as pretty!
Recipe Notes
- This is a soft pie. It won’t get firm so keep it in the refrigerator and serve cold. Some readers have also mentioned that you can also double the cream cheese to keep it from being runny.
- As mentioned, you can use any type of canned pie filling (I personally recommend blueberry). You can also omit the topping and instead just arrange fresh fruit on top of the cream cheese pie before serving.

Recipe FAQs
How do you avoid a lumpy cream cheese filling?
The key is to soften the cream cheese at room temperature before mixing.
Can you make cherry cream cheese pie in advance?
Absolutely! Because it needs time to chill, you can easily make your cream cheese pie up to 3 days ahead of time. However, I’d add the canned pie filling a few hours before serving. Otherwise, it’ll bleed into the cream cheese layer.

Could I double this recipe and put it into a 9x 13 pan. Make my own graham cracker crust ?
Same as the Cherry Cheesecake Pie recipe by Borden’s. Published in the 1950s or 60s. Love it, but …
For an added bit of flavor, use 3/4 t. vanilla and 1/4 t. almond flavoring. We love it.
Every year for my husband birthday this is the “cake” he asks for. It is what his mother made him. It’s so easy to make and so good that Im happy to do. This time I added the 2 pk of cream cheese because its been runny the previous years, and every year I say I will remember to remedy that next year. Fingers crossed that this does the trick.
I’m so glad you both enjoy it!
Did the doubling of the cream cheese work to make the batter stiffer?
I’ve made this pie for about 30 years and I’ve found that doubling every ingredient makes more pie filling and it takes about 2 days for it to set, I believe the recipe says to refrigerate for 8 hours but with that amount of time it will be lose so just plan before making it and allow 2 full days for refrigeration and always make sure your lemon juice is not expired that’s what gives it that twang. My grandkids don’t want birthday cake anymore they want Ma-ma to make them a cream cheese pie, sometimes I make a lemon sauce to put on top cause I don’t like mushy fruit like cherries or blueberries. And no more store bought pie crust only home made crust from graham crackers.
Wow thanks so much for sharing!! This made my day!
VERY IMPORTANT TIP: In order for this pie not to turn out soupy, you must ONLY BEAT THE CREAM CHEESE with the beaters until creamy. Mix everything else in by hand with a spoon or spatula. The instructions need to be modified or others may have a problem as well. The pie is very good, it is the same exact recipe used by many chefs, so it’s not new.
Thank you Brenda!! Yep my turned out runny like others did.
Gezzzz I agree Brenda ….how about a recipe instruction modification note. Beyond a Tad annoying beings I wanted to serve for Easter – went in the trash and no dessert.
This was my mother’s go to dessert in the 60’s. She used 2 packages of cream cheese because it’s just too soft and won’t set up with just 1 package of cream cheese. She also tripled the recipe and made 3 pies each time so there would be plenty for my 5 brothers! Thanks for the happy trip down memory lane. I miss her so much, we all do.
So glad this brought back such fond memories! Thank you so much for your beautiful comment and rating.
My Mom’s go to also. A great dessert!
I made this for my husband because we have been looking for a recipe like his mom had. She passed when he was 15 and he’s been trying for years to find something that closely resembles her recipe. Not only did this taste amazing, but he told me it tasted just like hers. When I make it again I will add a bit more cream cheese to help it firm up more.
This truly makes me smile :). So glad he loves it. Thank you for commenting!
Is there any reason I couldn’t use a can of strawberry pie filling instead?
I haven’t tested that method but seems to me that it would work fine!
I’ve left it without a topping and let everyone pick between cherry, strawberry, or plain. This way people can get as much or little topping as they want too.
