The Ingredients You’ll Need to Make this Cheese Soup recipe are:
- Borden® Sharp Cheddar Cheese
- Butter, Heavy Cream (or milk)
- Onion
- Chicken Broth
- Salt
- Pepper
- Paprika
Note: It is best not to use pre-shredded cheese for this as it won’t melt as well as the block cheese will.
While Brady handles the cheese grating, Katy is getting started with the first step over on the stovetop.
I am specifically using Borden® Cheese here because it is delicious, all natural, and is made by a cooperative of over 8,000 family owned dairy farms across the United States. The cheeses they offer include: Mild Cheddar, Mozzarella, Mexican, Swiss, Sharp Cheddar, American, Colby Jack, and more. They are available in singles, shreds, chunks, slices, strings, and snacks! This is creamy, flavorful, delicious cheese made in our homeland and it just makes every dish better.
This cheese soup is as simple as can be to make.

- Add onions and cook, stirring often, until browned.
- Add in broth, cream, and seasonings.
- Reduce to simmer and cook, stirring often, for about ten minutes.
- Add in shredded cheese and continue cooking, stirring constantly, until cheese is melted.

The recipe looks like something I can half since I’m alone. Being alone now after 59 years my advice to young families has been you can’t let business ruin it by not making time for dinner together. My husband would come home to dinner, have time with the kids ( 4 of them) then go back to work after baseball for the boys or whatever activity. Young moms please do this for your family. Thanks Christy and Kraft Foods.
This looks like a great recipe and I have all the ingredients and the kids love soup! We try to eat together every Sunday and have been trying to implement weekly meal planning (to reduce shopping trips) by working with the kids. This recipe will certainly help one week!
I enjoy all of your emails and facebook posts, your recipes and so good. I love your inspirational articles and personal sharings.
That looks delicious. Reminds me of a ham, cheese & rice casserole my grandma used to make.
Absolutely I accept this challenge – family dinner is one of my favorite times. And this soup looks really yummy too – and should work on a lower carb plan too? (Depending on what you put in it, of course)
This sounds wonderful. I can have my broccoli and my husband can add something he likes!
I’ll take the challenge! Christy, you are such an inspiration! Thanks and blessings!
