The Ingredients You’ll Need to Make this Cheese Soup recipe are:
- Borden® Sharp Cheddar Cheese
- Butter, Heavy Cream (or milk)
- Onion
- Chicken Broth
- Salt
- Pepper
- Paprika
Note: It is best not to use pre-shredded cheese for this as it won’t melt as well as the block cheese will.
While Brady handles the cheese grating, Katy is getting started with the first step over on the stovetop.
I am specifically using Borden® Cheese here because it is delicious, all natural, and is made by a cooperative of over 8,000 family owned dairy farms across the United States. The cheeses they offer include: Mild Cheddar, Mozzarella, Mexican, Swiss, Sharp Cheddar, American, Colby Jack, and more. They are available in singles, shreds, chunks, slices, strings, and snacks! This is creamy, flavorful, delicious cheese made in our homeland and it just makes every dish better.
This cheese soup is as simple as can be to make.
- Melt butter in a medium stock pot over medium heat.
- Add onions and cook, stirring often, until browned.
- Add in broth, cream, and seasonings.
- Reduce to simmer and cook, stirring often, for about ten minutes.
- Add in shredded cheese and continue cooking, stirring constantly, until cheese is melted.
Check out the video to see everyone adding in their favorite toppings. This is my bowl, with diced ham and steamed broccoli. ENJOY!

Absolutely LOVE this idea, as I know many families do not seem to think of it as a priority! I love the fact that our family doesn’t even question it, we all sit down together to eat, always have.
Thanks for the chance at winning the goods, Christy! 🙂
Dinner time is sacred at our house. We sit down nearly every night and eat together. Our one time to catch up with everyone. Good food is a plus.
Bringing back family together to have a meal is the most important for all families to do. We live in a fast pace world where families have no time for each other anymore but everyone can eat as a family for at least one meal everyday. I’m going to fix this beautiful cheese soup for our dinner tomorrow night as we have soup once a week and this one is the one we are having.. Yummy!! We love cheese…
We just had a “macaroni and cheese bar” birthday party last night, and I’m looking at this thinking, hmmmm, yeah, a CHEESE SOUP bar for the fall birthday parties! : ) I’m pinning it so I don’t forget it!
This soup looks awesome! We have a family meal of grilled cheeseburgers (with borden cheese on top funny how your post and my meal plan were on the same page this week!) plus homemade french fries planned for tonight! Even though it’s just me and my husband now we make it a priority to each together at the table as often as we can!
Having the family all together is so important. Talking about the day and sharing things that happened. Bring our families back together please.
We enjoy our sit-down meals together, and even more so with $100 gift card 🙂
