These sensational ingredients are coated in a dressing made from mayonnaise, vinegar, and sugar. Yep, it’s a flavor and textural explosion that no one will be able to resist.

One of the best parts is that it’s so quick and easy to make, so it’s the perfect salad to make ahead and store in the fridge when you have friends or family over or if you’re heading to a potluck. This broccoli salad with bacon will last in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. But it’s best to store the salad and dressing separately.

Recipe Notes

  • Feel free to substitute the vinegar for apple cider vinegar.
  • Think it’s not a salad without cheese? Feel free to add a cup of shredded cheddar cheese or a 1/4 cup of goat cheese to this broccoli salad with bacon. I won’t tell!
  • Here are some fun substitutions:
    • Swap the sunflower seeds for sliced almonds, pine nuts, chopped pecans, or chopped walnuts.
    • Substitute the raisins for dried cranberries, dried blueberries, or dried cherries (or a combination).
    • If you’re wanting to go meat-free, substitute the bacon for sundried tomatoes or olives.
    • To go dairy-free, you’ll just need to use vegan mayonnaise.
  • Insider’s tip: if you prefer your salad had a milder onion flavor, soak the chopped onions in ice water for 10 minutes. It removes the onion’s “bite” so to speak.
  • Serve your broccoli bacon salad by itself or alongside a simple main dish like butter roasted chicken, hamburger steaks, or grilled chicken tenderloins.

  1. I made this for Easter, and it is beyond delicious! This is a party in your MOUTH. It’s not just great tasting, it’s great TEXTURE. I will definitely be adding this to my regular line-up of recipes. Next time I will try light mayo, and possibly a sugar alternative. (I’m not a big Splenda fan, but I have a few friends who’ve been recommending a couple of other ones I might try.) Thanks, Christy, for another fantastic recipe! 🙂

  2. I made this salad last night. I’ve had it before and really liked it but never made it. The one I have had before had halved red seedless grapes in it which was very good. I didn’t have sunflower seeds so I used walnuts which I chopped up because I had some in the freezer and I also used golden raisins because I had those and it came out awesome. My husband loved it so much he finished it all off last night and wants me to make it weekly! Thanks for the yummy recipe.

  3. Oh, I think I’ve had this salad before! If it’s the one I’m thinking of, I absolutely love it! Way cute rhyming, by the way. I don’t think I’m creative enough to rhyme an entire recipe, that’s pretty impressive!

  4. I started making this salad a couple of months ago, and it has fast become our favorite! I also use the golden raisins too. I think they have a sweeter taste, and I’m all for sweetness.

My sister, who says that if God wanted her to eat green stuff, He would have made it taste like chocolate, has eaten the salad, and has even had 2nds.

For our thanksgiving dinner, my husband cut up the broccoli, which was really nice! He is better than the food processor, and much cuter too! (Of course, I don’t have a Hamilton Beach Food Processor!)
Do you think they’d send me one?

  5. Yummy! My grandmother ALWAYS makes this broccoli salad and it is always a hit. I like to use the golden raisins instead cause I never use them for anything else…hehe. I have never added sunflower seeds but I will have to try that next time!

    1. I have to agree with Megan on using the golden raisins. That’s how I’ve eaten this salad too. I can’t say I’m 100% certain because it’s been awhile since I’ve eaten it, but I believe the person who made the dish for me also added purple grapes. I can’t believe I liked this salad because the ingredients are so unusual together but I was sooooo glad I tried it and I loved it!
