A few weeks back I posted about my back to school resolution and how it has become a challenge in the middle of my ever growing schedule to find time to make supper each night. I’ve employed some creative solutions such as cooking up meals ahead of time, freezing, and using my slow cooker more. I’ve even tried ~takes a breath~ planning. I hate that part of it. I’m really a fly-by-the-seat-of-my-pants gal when it comes to supper. I like to just wait and see what I’m in the mood for when it comes time to cook. I also don’t enjoy cooking ahead as that takes the fun out of getting to cook each night for me, but I’m working on developing new habits in order to be able to adjust to a more demanding work schedule and still keep family the top priority – and it’s working.

Today, I’d like for you to tell me how your back to school resolutions are going and we have a special treat for those who leave a comment!

  1. Christy, I have your cookbook and I just love your website. All the recipes I have tried have turned out delicious and I end up sharing the recipes with family and friends. I would love to win a Nook. Thank you.

  2. i would love to win this. the back to school routine doesn’t really start for me until next year when my son starts Kindergarten. That being said the planner I am, I am already trying to figure out how to make mornigns go more smoothly.

  3. Routine, routine, routine…that is how we cope with back to school. I think the family actually likes it. I can honestly say, we have a sit down meal at the same time each night. It is our family time and I’m not giving it up anytime soon. All other events of the evening are scheduled around the family dinner. The girls also have set bedtimes. They complained at first but now they go to bed on their own without any prodding. As to the meals, I’m a fly by the seat of my pants gal too..so I have to force myself to plan. Thank goodness for the internet. I love finding new recipes to share with my family. BUT for the nights I haven’t planned, there are always enough staples on hand in the freezer and the pantry for my own concoctions. 😉 A free nook would be awesome. I left a professional job to stay home with my girls and become a modern day June Cleaver. Needless to say, without the extra income, I can’t justify buying myself luxuries.

  4. We love to grill during the weekend. We usually grill several meats, along with fresh vegetables, and baked postatoes. Then we just have to warm them up to serve during the week, adding a fresh salad or roasted veggies in the oven. Also, I use the slow cooker alot, especially in the winter when soups and chili are sooooo good to come home to! Just add crackers or bread, and you have a meal, and some left over to freeze!

  5. Love your website…I’ve learned a lot. My Momma’s been gone a long time now, so when I need a recipe or a cooking tip I stop in for a “Visit”. Thanks for your posts.
