Get ready to wake up to the most delicious bowl of apple pie overnight oats, which includes oats soaked in milk, apple sauce, maple syrup, and ground cinnamon.
The beautiful oats in my apple cinnamon overnight oats are creamy, flavorful, filling, and comforting. Even more, they’re made in one of the easiest ways possible – by sticking them in your fridge and going to sleep! Doesn’t get better than that.
I love the texture of overnight oats, as the oats get plumped up just right. You can eat them cold or heat them up to have warm if that is your preference. These have an amazing depth of flavor and unlike flavored instant oats that you buy, you actually know where all of the flavors are coming from.
So, what flavors can you expect? Well, the oats are soaked overnight in milk, maple syrup or honey, unsweetened apple sauce, and ground cinnamon for that quintessential apple pie flavor. Then in the morning, you top your apple pie overnight oats with whatever toppings you like. Today I went with fresh apple, a little bit more cinnamon, and some chopped walnuts. But I’ve included more suggestions below.
Who’s ready to make some apple pie oatmeal?
Recipe Ingredients
- Old-fashioned rolled oats (you can also use quick oats or gluten-free oats).
- Milk
- Unsweetened apple sauce
- Maple syrup or honey
- Cinnamon
- For the toppings (which are optional), you can add a chopped apple, some chopped pecans or walnuts, and a little extra cinnamon.
How to Make Apple Pie Overnight Oats
Place oats in a 16-ounce mason jar and pour in the milk.
Add apple sauce, molasses or honey, and cinnamon.
Give it a stir or put the lid on and give it a shake.
Place this jar, with the lid on, in the refrigerator overnight.
In the morning, your oats will be plump, thick, and ready to eat!
I like to top them with diced apple (tossed in cinnamon to make cinnamon apple) and pecans or you can eat them as is. They are great cold or heated up like traditional oatmeal (which is how I eat it).
I hope you get to enjoy this wonderful apple pie overnight oats recipe!
Storage
Store leftovers in an airtight container or mason jar in the fridge for up to 5 days. Meal prep your apple overnight oats on Sunday and you have breakfast sorted for the week!
Recipe Notes
- You can use any type of milk, including 2%, skim milk, or even unsweetened almond milk.
- If you’re in a rush and won’t be making “overnight oats”, the oats only technically need about 2 hours to soak.
- For more apple pie flavor, substitute the ground cinnamon for apple pie spice.
- Other great toppings for this overnight oat recipe include a dollop of peanut butter or nut butter, chia seeds, granola, chocolate chips or cacao nibs, dried fruit like raisins or cranberries, sunflower seeds, or hemp seeds.
- For more sweetness, add 1/2 a teaspoon of vanilla extract.
- If you want actual apple in your apple pie overnight oats, some recipes actually add 1 cup of shredded apple (the equivalent of 1 medium apple) to the overnight oats before placing them in the fridge.
- To make vegan apple pie overnight oats, simply use your favorite dairy-free milk and maple syrup instead of honey.

The ingredients list say maple syrup or honey. But the instructions say molasses or honey. Not sure which is the correct word.
Hi Sue sorry for the confusion but any of those are fine. Depends on what you like. Hope you enjoy.
Do you heat up the apples and the nuts, too or put them in after heating? My husband will love this! I prefer crispy oats, like in apple crisp. Have you got any breakfast recipes like that?
Cheri, why not try toasting some oats nice and crispy and then making your oatmeal with them? I wouldn’t heat it with the milk because they’d probably get soggy.
Worth reading for the tip to carry packets of instant oatmeal! I also carry Hot Hands…saved my husband from spending the rest of our Moroccan vacation in hospital.
I Would love to give this as a party favor. I would need about 35. Can the recipe be made in batches or will I have to do one at a time? Thank-you
Thank you so much for having an overnight oats recipe that does not include chia seeds!!
🙂 You are VERY welcome Chrissy!!!
Hey Cristy, how long to heat in the micro wave. I am thinking maybe on power 8 for 30 seconds and check to see if warm enough.
Hey! I do about a minute but be careful getting it out. You can also put it in a bowl first and it will be a little easier to heat. I go with my mood 🙂
