A letter to you

Today, as I plucked our mail out of the mailbox, I began thinking of how rapidly life has changed. Most days I walk inside with a collection of catalogs and junk mail. I walk straight to the trash and stand over it as I go through them one by one. It is seldom that there is anything left in my hands when I turn around.
From time to time, Mama will send me a letter. Every now and then I get a card from my mother in law. Those are rare occurrences but a special joy when they happen. Then, I got to thinking about you and how it would be neat if I could send my readers actual letters from time to time. I quickly went over the math and cost of stamps and felt a little bit defeated when I saw the impossibility of it all.
But, I had an idea. I could write a letter and post it here, for you to download and print if you want. I sat down to my computer and a few minutes later, I had written a letter to you, a friend.
The letter is below. It’s just a pdf. My hope is that you’ll print it off to read, making it come to life as a real paper letter like we had back in the old days. It was just a silly, heartfelt notion of me reaching out to you and sharing my heart and life as a friend would. So if you decide to complete that connection by reading it, thank you.

  1. What a wonderful surprise to get an actual letter! I have always loved stationery, writing letters and notes, and have evolved into making my own greeting cards. I love doing that because they can be special to the person getting them. Love your blog and have enjoyed it and the recipes for a long time. I mostly love that you are a Christian who promotes the Bible and its teachings. May you be blessed as you continue on with your blog!

  2. Your letter was a wonderful idea! Thanks, friend. I, so enjoyed reading about the very cool, windy weather you tried to brave. Same here in Oklahoma. In a few weeks, patio here I come. Love iced tea, too.
How nice to go RVing. Want to do that this summer or early fall. Any ideas about how to pick a safe, clean RV park?
I have this thing about starting at the beginning and finishing, so we have read the Bible through many times. So nice to know you do and are doing so with more than one group. We bought Jewish Bibles to get the full meaning of the scriptures and the customs. The Complete Jewish Study Bible is one and the other is Messianic Jewish Family Bible. Both are in English and wonderfully eye opening.
Love your recipes! Going to make the pulled chicken, potato salad, white bbq sauce and orange cake, even if it is cool. God bless you, friend.

    1. We have CJB Bibles as well and I agree they are WONDERFUL! It is such a blessing to restore the Word back into it’s original context and I just love knowing how everyone’s names sounded on their Mama’s lips. We read several translations because, as it sounds like you do, reading the Scriptures in their fullness, along with understanding the context of the authors and the times they were written in is very important to us and has been very eye opening! I have a YRM Restoration Bible on it’s way to me and I’m excited to dig into that one because it has many charts and such comparing NT passage to the OT passages they are quoting and showing how the NT does not contradict the OT (unless you take it out of context, twist it around a bit, and only use snippets 😉 ) It sounds like you are I are on the same page with all of this. The Father sure is good to us!

  3. Thank you very much. It was a wonderful idea and I enjoyed reading the letter you sent. LOL. We also go camping in our RV. My husband is like you and I’m the one walking around the camp talking to everyone. I hope you do this again.
    Have a wonderful week.

  4. Enjoyed reading your letter. Nice to hear you are all enjoying your Bible study. We have been through a Bible study at one time at our parish few years back but it would not hurt to go through it again. You learn something new every time Im sure. Have a nice Spring and Summer soon be around the corner. Take care and God Bless you and yours.

  5. Thanks for taking time to write the letter. I , too, enjoy cards and letters . Sad , they are a rare thing anymore. Sending cards with notes tucked inside is something I’ve always done.
I’m glad you and Ricky are enjoying your RV.
    Happy Trails, to you

  6. I am pleased that you are reading the Bible from its start all the way through to the end. I also read it the same way everyday when I first get up. If you are not presently using a Companion Bible I strongly recommend that you get one and check it out. It is the KJV and contains notes opposite each verse that explain and define names and words which help me to have a much better understanding of God’s Word. There is also an appendix in the back that goes into great detail on definitions of many unfamiliar terms used in the Bible. May our Lord bless you with his knowledge wisdom and understanding of his Holy Words.

    1. What a wonderful blessing, John, thank you!!! I have one plan that has me reading through the Bible every four months and while it is aggressive, it is also a great blessing. I combine this, of course, with slower daily reading as well. Right now I try not to use a Bible with study notes in it as I’ve found those tend to be more doctrine based and I really want to let God’s Word prove God’s Word. However, we do use bible hub.com a lot to check out the interlinear. It is fascinating (and often enlightening) to see the original Hebrew, how the words were used elsewhere, and really pick the meat off the bones so to speak. We also use a software called E-Sword that I think you’d probably really enjoy. I use it to go through and write up my notes for my Facebook Fellowship group as it allows me to quickly find cross references in other parts of the Word, go back and forth between the original language, and switch translations easily. I am not married to a particular translation as they all have their pluses and minuses (interpreters have their bias, language issues, etc) but I do like to dig into several and most important to me is digging to find the original intent of the author.
It is SO EXCITING to be in the Word of God! Ricky and I talk sometimes about how we don’t understand how people can like watching tv so much when God’s Word is available instead!!! I hope you have a WONDERFULLY blessed week and may YHWH bless the reading of His Word for both of us! Shalom to you and your entire household!

  7. Thank you for taking the time to write to me. I miss that connection with the world, even family seems to connect on social media instead of picking up the phone and talking. People feel more isolated than ever.
I made your Pig picking cake in 2011 it was a huge hit! I try to make it every year now. It is a favorite of the grand angels. So many blessings! Suzie
