A letter to you

Today, as I plucked our mail out of the mailbox, I began thinking of how rapidly life has changed. Most days I walk inside with a collection of catalogs and junk mail. I walk straight to the trash and stand over it as I go through them one by one. It is seldom that there is anything left in my hands when I turn around.
From time to time, Mama will send me a letter. Every now and then I get a card from my mother in law. Those are rare occurrences but a special joy when they happen. Then, I got to thinking about you and how it would be neat if I could send my readers actual letters from time to time. I quickly went over the math and cost of stamps and felt a little bit defeated when I saw the impossibility of it all.
But, I had an idea. I could write a letter and post it here, for you to download and print if you want. I sat down to my computer and a few minutes later, I had written a letter to you, a friend.
The letter is below. It’s just a pdf. My hope is that you’ll print it off to read, making it come to life as a real paper letter like we had back in the old days. It was just a silly, heartfelt notion of me reaching out to you and sharing my heart and life as a friend would. So if you decide to complete that connection by reading it, thank you.

Your letter was so uplifting. A good reminder to myself that with every new day there is the promise of hope and happiness.
Hi Christy,
This letter was so sweet, and much appreciated. I have been housebound for the better part of three weeks now with upper respiratory illness (with allergies – Central Virginia is blooming!) that will not go away. While I am so very blessed to be able to work from home while I try and recover, I have not been able to attend church a few Sundays, and have missed my Wednesday night Bible study. This letter is like a little hug from one of my friends at church!
Love your recipes, your posts, and your YouTube channel.
Warm Blessings,
Christine
Enjoyed your letter such a wonderful read. We are having Lenten bible study now one more Wednesday night with good food and fellowship. Then off to the Outer Banks even retired people need to get away. Like you our first camping trip with the camper is next month. Be safe have a great week.
Your friend in Christ
John
What a lovely idea,I really enjoyed reading your letter. thankyou from the U.K
Good Morning, friend. I just received your letter and it was so good to hear from you. I am glad that you are enjoying camping and happy that the critters got to go with you. I married into a camping family but I did not take to it like they had hoped.
I am always happy to hear from you and follow your adventures. By the way, do you still have chickens? I want some but don’t think it is going to happen.
Miss seeing you but think of you often.
Your friend from Gardendale, not the one with pretty glasses.
Dear Dianne,
I can’t tell you how many times I go to pick up my phone to call and check in on my crazy Gardendale friends! It’s wonderful hearing from you. I don’t have chickens right now. There was an incident with a raccoon the size of a wolf that resulted in my fancy new waterer being filled with holes from a pellet gun (ricky) and the raccoon receiving one kill shot directly in the head (me, first try, thank you very much) and that kind of freaked Ricky out.
I think we talked about this.
Anyway, after that we had a zombie chicken incident (don’t ask) and decided that our coop needed major revamping so I gave the chickens to a friend to allow us to do that. In betwixt hither and yon we ended up taking a break, with all intentions to get chickens again come spring and now we have this RV and a desire to ramble and a hesitance to ask our sweet neighbors to look after a chicken situation that could leave them with Wolf sized raccoons and zombies on their hands.
I know, as crazy as all this sounds, you understand, which offers me comfort but would likely cause the rest of the world some degree of alarm for the both of us.

I ordered those glasses in royal blue with polka dots and they should arrive today or tomorrow!
Love you, friend. A group of ladies in our Bible Study group has plans to visit the Chinese Lantern event at the Huntsville Botanical Gardens sometimes in May. Maybe you can join us.
Dianne
ps We can’t really be too worried about alarming the rest of the world. Wouldn’t it be dull if we were all the same?
Hi Christy, This is the other crazy Gardendale friend. Hope you enjoy your glasses as much as I have enjoyed mine. As much as I enjoy the fellowship group and of course Southernplate, I sure do miss the cooking classes. Dianne and I both feel like you are a very closer friend. Glad you are enjoying camping with Ricky. Sometime I will have to tell you how the Kitchen Aid mixer that I won when you were at AllSouth Appliance in Birmingham at your book signing ended up costing me $12,00 !! Thank you for the letter you sent to “me”. Love hearing about you and the family.
Hope to see you sometime. Like Dianne said, we are coming to the gardens the 9th of May.

Thanks Christy for taking the time to write the letter. I was so excited you took the time to send us all a letter. I love old school! Cards and Letters! 🙂 I tell my husband if we didn’t get junk mail the postman might not have a job! Lol! I am like you seems like every day when I check the mailbox I stand over the trash throwing the junk mail away. My husband and I had a long distance relationship and would see each other about every two weeks or on weekends if he could get away from his military job but I could always go to the post office and count on a letter or two from him weekly and it was so exciting and nice to know he took the time out of his busy schedule to write me. I still have all his letters and cherish them cause he wrote from his heart. We will celebrate 20 years of marriage this June and I am so blessed that God put us together. I also want to thank you for starting the Fellowship Bible Study group. We all need more of God’s word in our heart’s. I also am very thankful I got to meet you and your family in Branson at Silver Dollar City a few years ago. When I heard you were going to be in Branson with your newest cookbook I told my husband we had to make the trip. Got all my (3) sister’s a signed cookbook and they were so excited! My baby sister and her husband and granddaughter enjoyed the trip with us and her little 2yr. old granddaughter loved you as well. She got all dressed up in her own little apron to get her picture made with you. 🙂 You and your mom and family highlighted our trip to Branson that year. I hope to meet you again someday! I would love to visit your state sometime. Have a Blessed and Wonderful day! Your Fellowship friend forever Linda Garner.
Thank you for the letter! What a great idea! I’ve been putting off contacting someone that I only have an address for! I will write her today! Have a wonderful rest of the week!
Thank you so much for the letter. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for such wonderful recipes. You would be surprised at how many of them I have made. Most of them turned out great,a few, not so great. Not your fault though. I hope you keep on sending out the recipes and being such a wonderful witness for the Lord. The world needs a lot more Christy Jordan’s in it.
More of the Sweetness seeping out of you. You are more like your sweet little Grandmama every day. I will print your letter, keep it tucked away in one of your/my cookbooks and read it often. It is another little treasure from my sweet girl. Love You, Ma.
