A letter to you

Today, as I plucked our mail out of the mailbox, I began thinking of how rapidly life has changed. Most days I walk inside with a collection of catalogs and junk mail. I walk straight to the trash and stand over it as I go through them one by one. It is seldom that there is anything left in my hands when I turn around.
From time to time, Mama will send me a letter. Every now and then I get a card from my mother in law. Those are rare occurrences but a special joy when they happen. Then, I got to thinking about you and how it would be neat if I could send my readers actual letters from time to time. I quickly went over the math and cost of stamps and felt a little bit defeated when I saw the impossibility of it all.
But, I had an idea. I could write a letter and post it here, for you to download and print if you want. I sat down to my computer and a few minutes later, I had written a letter to you, a friend.
The letter is below. It’s just a pdf. My hope is that you’ll print it off to read, making it come to life as a real paper letter like we had back in the old days. It was just a silly, heartfelt notion of me reaching out to you and sharing my heart and life as a friend would. So if you decide to complete that connection by reading it, thank you.

I loved this, Christy. It reminds me of your style in the early days of your blog. It also “reads” like a real letter. Thank you for sharing your life and your heart with all of us.
so nice to get the letter even tho it was not in my physical mail box. I wanted to tell you that no, sending actual letters and notes through the mail is alive and well in my home. And I have always done so–I’m nearing 70 years now. I love making my own cards as well, decorating the envelopes through various methods, ordering special colorful inks, perusing books and the internet for mail art ideas. My grandchildren get “just because” mail from me often. Just this weekend I made cards for an aunt’s 92nd birthday using fabric scraps glued, then sewn to the card, and one for a granddaughter going through some struggles. She has gotten frequent notes from me over the last 3 months and told me how much it has meant to her. THAT makes it worth it. I can easily spend hours in making a special card and envelope for someone, and I always get much appreciated thanks. Sending someone a note through the mail will always show you took the time to make them know how special you are to them.
Christy, you are the sweetest! Loved your letter and your message, esp “Beginning in the beginning”. It is easy to take a short path, but the foundational learning and prayers add so much to the NT. Love that you loved the RV experience. My family is like Ricky and I am much more reseved. Glad you ordered a flag and can see the fun and community in the RV world!
Also so happy I was able to meet you at the Becoming conference last year – I read your words and also hear your voice, just amplifying the message and your stories.
Thanks so much for the fun letter!
Theresa
This is so wonderful. Texting and Facebook do serve a purpose but there is an art to letter writing. I need to get back to my own personal Bible Reading. I write lesson plans for every Shabbat so the children from our Religious School can begin to develop a relationship with Torah. I need to make time for myself. Christie, you continue to inspire us! And yes, it is still freezing here in Knoxville!
What’s a fun idea! When I get a card it gets stuck between random cookbooks. That way I get to have a surprise when I hunt up a recipe Even my other books have gotten their share of notes over time. I think I will file this pdf right about the space I want to make for a cookbook of yours one day! I know there are list arts of many sorts these days….your sweet letter is a poignant reminder and a blessing. xxoo, JoAnne
I enjoyed your letter and appreciate the time and effort it took to do this for us. Blessings from my home in southwest Virginia to you and your family…..and to our bible study family too!
Oh Christy, that is just the sweetest thing! I too love to get letters and cards in the mail. Messenger just isn’t the same thing! It’s so sad that the art of communication is being lost more every day, along with cursive writing.
