A letter to you

Today, as I plucked our mail out of the mailbox, I began thinking of how rapidly life has changed. Most days I walk inside with a collection of catalogs and junk mail. I walk straight to the trash and stand over it as I go through them one by one. It is seldom that there is anything left in my hands when I turn around.
From time to time, Mama will send me a letter. Every now and then I get a card from my mother in law. Those are rare occurrences but a special joy when they happen. Then, I got to thinking about you and how it would be neat if I could send my readers actual letters from time to time. I quickly went over the math and cost of stamps and felt a little bit defeated when I saw the impossibility of it all.
But, I had an idea. I could write a letter and post it here, for you to download and print if you want. I sat down to my computer and a few minutes later, I had written a letter to you, a friend.
The letter is below. It’s just a pdf. My hope is that you’ll print it off to read, making it come to life as a real paper letter like we had back in the old days. It was just a silly, heartfelt notion of me reaching out to you and sharing my heart and life as a friend would. So if you decide to complete that connection by reading it, thank you.

What a lovely letter – and a lovely idea! I still try to write emails as letters, as postage has become so high that I can’t afford to send mail like I used to. For the past couple of years I have really tried to send birthday cards (being able to afford those from the Dollar Store) and people often comment how much they appreciate finding some “real” mail in their mailbox. Like you, I’m a little shy about getting to know new people and I have to push myself. Good for you – for getting out there!
Thank you so much Christy for your letter it really brightened my day. Our family has been through a lot the last six weeks. My Mom learned she had cancer and it blocked her intestines and grew into her back muscles; she now has an ileostomy bag and hates it. One of my sisters was put on hospice the same week and is restricted to the bed. Many prayers have been said and our faith will keep us strong. You inspire me to become a better person and I thank you for that. I just finished a Bible study on Job and understand how the Psalms are making you feel better. I have tried many of your recipes and love your FB group. You are a very special friend.
Your letter made my day. You are a ray of sunshine and such a blessing to others. Looking forward to more letters in the future.
Thank you, Christy, for the beautiful letter…I can almost see you with Bella snuggling as you wrote!!
It is great to receive a letter, a lost part of our lives before the computers and hustle-bustle of life became so overwhelming! So many people have no recollection of how good life used to be, they missed out on the really good part.
I enjoy your recipes and posts, you’re a breath of fresh air & truly an inspiration. Your Bible study is awesome, we are all scattered around the world but yet there’s a closeness by virtue of studying together.
I feel as if I know you, maybe when we all get to Heaven, we will meet…
Keep doing what you’re doing, you touch so many lives in so many ways, you share yourself and your family with us and so you are like part of our family!!
God bless you and Ricky and the kids…and give Bella a hug & bellyrub from me…♥

Thanks for the newsy letter, Christy! It is always refreshing to have news from a friend. 🙂
Thank you for the letter, that was great. I, like you, miss the days of handwritten letters and invitatrions. So much is done digital now : (( But I have found myself doing the same thing, this inspires me to send my besties a handwritten note : ) Thank you! My husband and I have been rolling around the idea of an RV, we love to camp in a tent, but the summers in here Florida make that pretty miserable at times. Thanks again for all you do!! God bless!
What a very sweet gesture! Thank you for making me feel special and for sharing your family moments! It is great to share in the wonderful art and tradition of letter writing and sharing a moment with those special people in your life! I believe I’m the only one in my extended family (both sides) that still sends hand written notes to anyone. I think it is very important!!
