A letter to you

Today, as I plucked our mail out of the mailbox, I began thinking of how rapidly life has changed. Most days I walk inside with a collection of catalogs and junk mail. I walk straight to the trash and stand over it as I go through them one by one. It is seldom that there is anything left in my hands when I turn around.
From time to time, Mama will send me a letter. Every now and then I get a card from my mother in law. Those are rare occurrences but a special joy when they happen. Then, I got to thinking about you and how it would be neat if I could send my readers actual letters from time to time. I quickly went over the math and cost of stamps and felt a little bit defeated when I saw the impossibility of it all.
But, I had an idea. I could write a letter and post it here, for you to download and print if you want. I sat down to my computer and a few minutes later, I had written a letter to you, a friend.
The letter is below. It’s just a pdf. My hope is that you’ll print it off to read, making it come to life as a real paper letter like we had back in the old days. It was just a silly, heartfelt notion of me reaching out to you and sharing my heart and life as a friend would. So if you decide to complete that connection by reading it, thank you.

I have been with you since the beginning and loved the letter! I would love to send you a letter/card in the mail. Just so you get something (not bills or ads) to say thank you! i miss getting letters in the mail. When I was active duty that was favorite part of my day, getting a letter from home.

I love getting letters and cards in the mail! I used to write my Grandma twice a week and she always wrote back or sent me some hard candy or gum in her envelope. Good memories! Also the Pig Pickin cake is my husbands favorite so I might just make that for Easter lunch since now I am the Grandma 😉
Thank you for your letter! It sure took me back to the days when that was the way to communicate. I remember going to the mailbox and on a rare occasion finding something in there. Christmas time was very exciting. Back in the 60’s each of us kids would get a letter from Santa. It was personalized to each one of us. Seeing that envelope and the letter inside left a feeling of importance to my life. I treasured each one I received. We were so small during those years but that feeling has stuck with me my entire life. There is something about knowing you are on someone’s mind and heart. It seems like in today’s fast paced world we are grouped together as a whole in society. While social media keeps us informed on the events of the day. There isn’t much place for the personal touches. Your letter gives a sense of that personal touch back. I enjoy your site and am grateful you are on here. Looking forward to new things. Thank you so mu much for taking the time to “send” us a letter. I love sending and receiving personal mail as opposed to junk mail. On Tuesday, I went to a flea market with a precious group of ladies from my church. My express purpose was to try to find a teaspoon for a set of silverware that my 89 year old aunt has. She has given the wooden box with the silverware in it to her daughter some time before 1973. It had been a second anniversary gift from her husband. Since her daughter was married to a captain in the army, my aunt figured her daughter would use it more. Tragically, her daughter and son-in-law were killed in an auto accident leaving my aunt to raise her 3 year old grandson. My aunt lears later gave the silverware to her married son who kept the box of silverware in his garage. She saw it last December and brought it home to save for her grandson’s daughter who will soon graduate from high school. I was with her when she opened the box of silverware and she was missing 1 teaspoon. My mission at the flea market was to look for one. I found 2 and a butter knife. I mailed all three to her Tuesday afternoon as soon as I got home. She should get them today. She has no idea I found them and mailed them to her. I can’t wait for her call! She may have lost her daughter and my mother died in 1966, but God gave us each other as we both age. Isn’t He wonderful!

What a wonderful letter. It was great hearing your RV story. We have a neighbor who’s husband would do the exact same thing. Only he would come back telling her who they were having dinner with or who was coming to dinner. I really need to get into a Bible study group. I have no trouble reading the NT but the Old Testament is where I fall short.

We too are RVers. We traveled with our 3 kids, 4 cats and a dog for 3.5 years until we settled in FL. Now that life is winding down a bit, I have retired – dh retires this June, and we will be off again.
And, yes, we will be getting one of those signs too!
