I want to hang out with YOU in Silver Dollar City next month!
Details at the bottom of this post.
Silver Dollar City in Branson, Missouri is one of those trips where you’ll get home and be surprised at how few photos you have. We sure were. The reason behind it, though, makes the trip all the more special.
You see, some places have this effect on families. Sometimes nature, atmosphere, spirit, and sunshine blend together so perfectly that conditions are ripe for getting completely caught up in one another – to the point of forgetting the outside world and and all it’s trappings. And before you know it, you’re laughing and soaking up life with your family and thoughts of pulling that phone out of your pocket have left you entirely.
Silver Dollar City is one of those places. As a result, we don’t have a lot of photos to share, but oh my goodness, do we have memories. That’s why my heart is so happy to invite you and your precious family to come visit me at Silver Dollar City next month, when I’ll be appearing there as part of their Southern Gospel Picnic. Complete details are at the bottom of this post but first, I want to share some of my thoughts on what to expect.
What to expect at Silver Dollar City:
1.Set your heart to gladness and get ready for a new theme park experience – Silver Dollar City is not your normal amusement park. This park is absolutely drenched and ensconced in an atmosphere of good neighbors, family, and old fashioned charm. Everything from the scenery, building style, sounds, smells, and attitudes reminds you to slow down, step back, and enjoy life. Dive right in as soon as possible.
2.Eat in the park as much as possible!
This is not your normal theme park food. In fact, I was shocked to find how many items sold in the parks were actually made from scratch right on the property. From the smoked meats right down to the barbecue sauce, this is park food you don’t want to miss.
At one point, I went to order some chicken fingers for my daughter and the lady rang me up and said “It will be just a minute while I bread them.” You could have knocked me over with a feather as I watched her take our fresh chicken tenders, hand bread them, and drop them in the fryer. That just isn’t the norm at most theme parks. Naturally, I did what anyone in their right mind would do and immediately ordered another helping for all of us to share.
My recommendation is that you eat as much as possible in the park. Do not miss the Cinnamon Bread and Red Velvet Funnel Cake. Just don’t. Trust me.
There are also several restaurants in the park. In fact, during the Southern Gospel Picnic you’ll be able to dine on some of my recipes as well in the house of Chicken and Fixin’s, which is a favorite of ours. This restaurant has a wonderful buffet filled to the brim with Southern favorites (think “family reunion” food).
We also love getting to eat underground in the Lucky Silver Mine restaurant.
3. Check out the Craftsmen!
There are so many amazing arts and crafts being made at any given moment in the park. I enjoyed chatting with this nice man as he made me a custom rolling pin (I think you need one, too).
We all enjoyed meandering around and stopping to see how various crafts were made. You can see wood carving, blacksmithing, glass blowing, candle making, leather working, and countless more. Everyone is nice as can be and questions are welcome. Some of our most interesting conversations were with the craftsmen around the park!
4. Need help, directions, or advice? Just ask!
Speaking of being neighborly…. There are maps and signs to help you find your way around the park but I quickly learned that my favorite way of finding my way is just to ask directions. Anyone walking around is happy as a lark to stop and give you advice and directions. This is Shorty, he was one of our favorites. 🙂
5. Bring an adventurous spirit!
There are countless rides and roller coasters for people of all ages in the park. Ricky and the girls enjoyed a good many of these and there were still many that my less-than-adventurous self could enjoy as well. These photos are just a small sampling of what Silver Dollar City has to offer.
6. But don’t worry if you’re not an adventurer, you’ll still have a wonderful time!
The park boasts some wonderful shows, rides for those of us who like things a little on the gentler side of life, crafts (as I mentioned before), GREAT shopping, and of course Southern Gospel music!
7. Get ready for some Good Music and be amazed at the atmosphere!
Our absolute number one thing that we love the most about Silver Dollar City is the immersive Christian atmosphere. Herschend Family Entertainment owns and operates the park and their company motto is “We best serve Christ by bringing families together.” This thread is woven through and visible throughout every moment of your time in the park and the Southern Gospel Music Picnic Festival is one of the times in which this is even more apparent.
I’ll be appearing as part of the Southern Gospel Music Picnic this year and I’d love for you to join me!
I’ll be doing three shows each day on August 25 and 26, as well as sharing my testimony before the concerts kick off each night in Echo Hollow. We’ll also be having meet and greets as well and I’d just love to see you!

Help! The class schedule the SEC has posted on their website does not list your classes. My girlfriend & I want to sign up. I called the ticket sales office, was told to do it online. Can’t do it if I can’t find it! Can you help me or have additional information? Thanks!
Hey Sandy! You don’t have to sign up or anything. I am doing three shows Friday and three Saturday at 11, 1, & 3. Just come to any or all of them 🙂 It is the same show each time. When you get there they have a little paper they hand out that will tell the location and such and they will all be in the same place. I’m also speaking in Echo Hollow before the Gospel concerts each night. Look forward to seeing you!
Christy,
I’m so excited about going to Branson to see you! My sister, Liz and I traveled from Oklahoma last October to Huntsville to be part of your October 20th workshop. You did not disappoint! Branson is only about 5 hours from her house. Yippee!
You are doing 3 workshops on each day. Are any of them repeats or should we plan on being there for all of them? This is such a wonderful opportunity and I don’t want to miss a thing.
I’m looking forward to seeing you at Branson!
xoxo,
Melinda Kinney
Christy, what route do you take? We went back and May and my husband just did whatever the GPS told him and all it was was one curvy, hilly road after another and I mean miles out in the middle of no where, I cannot tell you have many times we got turned around (and how many time I got car sick!), at one point, we literally drove down a road that ended up underwater!!! Thank God, (in all sincerity) we weren’t driving at night! Anyone, I live in the Huntsville,AL area like you so wondering what route you take because I swore never to return just because of the drive out there! Other than that, Silver Dollar City was wonderful!
OMG, OMG….I am doing a happy dance. My daughter works for Silver Dollar City. I have told her she needs to go see you and get me an autograph. I had sent off for some book plates, but they never came. I wish I could be there, but health reasons keep my homebound. You are my cooking idol, I own all your books and follow your blog. Not to be blasphemous, I refer to the Gospel of Christy for all my cooking needs…lol. You lift me up with your blog, food wise and spirit wise.
Oh my goodness, you are too sweet Anne!!! Thank you so much for such kind words and compliments!! I will have to check on your book plates, can’t imagine why they never came. We try to make sure that we fill every request. I look forward to meeting your daughter, tell her to make sure she tells me who she is!!!
If I remember right, my request was written on a torn envelope in crayon. It was all I could find after a visit by the grandbabies.
I love this! I have a friend who watches her grandbabies every day while all their parents work. The kids are 10, 8, 4, 2, and 1 year-old triplets. God bless her! And you!
I so wish school didn’t start until September… We go back on the 14th of August. How blessed are those that will have the opportunity to see you there.
I’ve always heard about the days when no one went back to school until after Labor Day.
We are starting August 1st so we can have a more flexible schedule. 🙂 But homeschooling has a lot more freedom to it.
