What if you got store bought applesauce and seasoned it to taste like fried apples?
All the flavor of fried apples made entirely out of ingredients you can keep on hand that won’t go bad like fresh apples do, and no peeling, coring, or chopping!
Fried apples are usually served as a side dish but some folks save them to eat last as a dessert. You could also have them for breakfast!
Here is my simple recipe, full of spices and flavorings of fried apples without the fuss or time involved. It’s just a matter of mixing it all together and letting it simmer, so with very little work you can have a deliciously spiced side in no time at all. What You’ll Need:
Ingredients:
- unsweetened applesauce*
- ginger
- cinnamon
- allspice
- cloves
- butter
- dark brown sugar
*You can use sweetened applesauce if that is what you have, but you’ll need to taste it a few times to get the sweetness right. I’d start by not adding any sugar and then tasting it after cooking a few minutes. I prefer to get unsweetened so I can add that brown sugar flavor to it and sweeten according to my taste.
How to Make Fried Apple Applesauce:
Place everything in a large skillet and put over medium heat, stirring well to combine.

Continue stirring as the butter melts and the brown sugar breaks up.
Once the mixture begins to bubble, reduce temperature to low.
At this point, carefully taste and add 1/4 cup more brown sugar, if desired.
Stir occasionally, about ten minutes, or until thickened.
This Fried Apple Applesauce keeps well in the refrigerator and is good hot or cold. It’s an easy win!

- 46 Ounces or 4-1/2 cups Unsweetened Apple Sauce
- 4 Tablespoons Butter
- 3/4 Cup Dark Brown Sugar more if you prefer it sweeter
- 2 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon allspice
- 1/2 teaspoon cloves
- 1/2 teaspoon ginger
Instructions
- Place all ingredients into a large skillet and stir well. Place over medium heat, stirring often, until butter melts and everything is well incorporated and smooth.
- Once bubbly, reduce temperature to low. Carefully taste and add 1/4 more dark brown sugar, if desired.
- Continue cooking on low, stirring occasionally, until slightly thickened.
- Serve warm or cold.
One of my favorite quick meals is hot cornbread with butter and applesauce or fried apples on the side. This recipe would be wonderful with it!
When I was growing up we always saved bacon fat.
My mom used it for trying eggs ,potatoes, hash, ect

I’ve been using this shortcut for years and no one ever knew! lol However, I use chunky applesauce for mine. I usually try to double it up and use any leftovers for fried pies. It also makes a good pie filling if you’re short on time and need a quick apple pie! Thanks for sharing!
