- Add lime juice instead of lemon juice.
- Add 1/2 a cup of green onion, chopped red onion, or celery to this crab dip.

Recipe FAQs
What is imitation crab dip made of?
Every imitation crab dip recipe is different. But most of them include imitation crab meat (of course), lemon juice, seasoning, and the creamy substance of your choice. This might be plain yogurt, sour cream, or mayo.
What can I substitute for cream cheese?
If cream cheese is scarce in your neck of the woods, I have used plain Greek yogurt and it was just as tasty. Other recipes have listed mayo or sour cream as subs too.
What can I substitute for the crab?
I have made this with little mini shrimp (normally I am not a big seafood fan) and it was divine!
What is imitation crab?
Imitation crab is usually made from something called surimi or white fish flesh. It has the bones removed and minced into a paste. Then it’s combined together with other ingredients including both natural and artificial flavors, starch, sugar, and sodium.

How do you make hot crab dip?

Notes
Why reduced fat cream cheese? Never use reduce fat of anything if you want nice full flavor in a recipe.
Could you use something besides cocktail sauce? I can’t eat that. Thanks!
I would sub with your favorite salsa and see what you think.
If you can eat ketchup, that works very well. Many old cocktail sauce recipes were no more than horseradish and ketchup combined, sometimes with a dab of mayonnaise mixed in, and they were delicious. I think 2 oz. of tomato sauce would also work if you can’t have ketchup.
Easy recipe! Too bad my family doesn’t like seafood!
I am assuming that this will also turn out very tasty made with fresh or canned crab. On my way to the store to get some and try it out. Thanks!!
We like crab Rangoon, but this looks even tastier and no deep frying! The heated variation sounds very intriguing. 🙂
Going to try this for the College National Football Championship 2022 on 1/10/2022. My husband will love it because it doesn’t have celery in it. ROLL TIDE
This sounds easy & it’s nice that you can make it either a hot or cold dip!
